This backyard project showcases one of our favorite tile techniques — large square concrete pavers set in a straight stepping pattern, bordered and infilled with smooth gray river rock. The tiles were installed with a slight elevation above the rock bed, creating a clean visual separation between the hard tile surface and the soft stone surround.
The concrete tiles used here feature a subtle textured finish that provides excellent grip underfoot while maintaining a refined, modern look. The river rock border acts as a natural edge restraint, keeping the tiles in place while adding a beautiful organic contrast. This type of installation is built to last — designed to handle foot traffic, weather, and time with ease.
